How do I maintain my embroidery?
Embroidery is a fun addition to clothing. It can tell a beautiful story or hold wonderful memories.
In both cases it is important that you take good care of the embroidery and wash and treat it correctly. Below I share concrete tips to keep your embroidery beautiful for as long as possible.
1. Wash with cold water / max 30°C
Hot water can shrink or fade the thread of the embroidery. Using cold water or a low temperature will protect the colors and structure of the embroidery.
2. Wash the garment inside out
By washing your clothes inside out, you reduce the friction between the embroidery and the drum of the washing machine. This prevents the embroidery from getting damaged.
3. Use mild detergent
Strong detergents can contain harmful chemicals that will damage the fibres of the embroidery. Always choose a mild detergent that is specially designed for delicate fabrics.
4. Avoid the dryer
The heat in a dryer can shrink or loosen the thread. Let your embroidery garments air dry, preferably flat, to prevent distortion.
5. Do not iron on the embroidery
Direct heat from an iron can damage the threads and design. When ironing, always turn the garment inside out and use an ironing cloth to protect the embroidery.
